The New Adventures of Nathan Redwood [Apple Tree] (As in Nathan the plant and not the Human!)

A while ago, I decided that I could do with a pet, but I didn’t want to risk killing something with a face [unintentionally] so after racking my think tank with all possible options, I eventually realised that the fauna route was not feasible, and decided to go with another living option: Flora! Or techically Arbor in this case.

Meet Nathan, my Jo[NATHAN] Apple tree.

Nathan was doing well- even started flowering!

Not to mention producing fruit

I was filled with pride, especially as I got Nathan right as I became reinvested in the lore of The Lord of the Rings, and trees play a part in that storyverse, iykyk. I even sang to Nathan, and my singing has gotten noticeably good in the last month or so: as my health improved, so did my ability to carry tunes, and I have been karaokeing a lot since, but that’s a story for another time.

All cause for celebration right? It should be; however, recently, Nathan hasn’t been doing well, and I googled the possible causes: was it overwatering, underwatering, overfeeding (too many nutrients etc), or maybe the heat/windiness combination? Perhaps I shouldn’t have given him seaweed I gathered from the beach, though I researched that his type of plant enjoys seaweed!

I admit that I also used Dark Magic to augment his growth, sacrificing many a once living… thing… to become ash-soil for Nathan.

And of course, how could we forget the cherry on top: Brawndo! It’s got what plants crave, right???!!!

As expected, I played Helicopter Gardener too heavily, but my intentions were good! But I realised that I should replant Nathan and let Nature take its course. Then anothrr thought hit me- maybe Nathan was lonely, needed a friend?

Meet Lady Lia Williams, a Wil[LIA]ms Apple tree! She is on the right, and despite currently being taller that Nathan, he doesn’t mind being partnered with an Amazonian Malus Mommy (Malus is the scientific genus of apples). Plus, most apple species are meant to cross pollinate if you want fruit!

I went to my local hardware store and got a bunch of potting fix fertilisers, and Lady Lia too, as well as some other plants that were on special for the holiday season. After an afternoon of digging and landscaping, I think Nathan and Lia are enjoying their new pad! The poinsettias [red plants] are a nice addition as Nathan was named for a great peer of mine who likes the colour, Pokemon character, and GO team faction Red. Plus, it’s Christmas!

All that clutter is meant to be a windbreak, I was worried that the swaying was getting in the way of Nathan’s wellbeing.

Will Nathan’s health improve? Will Lia get along with her new roommate? Can I be trusted to keep any of these plants alive?
