“I am the daughter of a Gentleman, and as such we are equals.”

In many ways, I am considered a proper gentleman by merit, as in education and culture, I can pass myself amongst such circles, albeit with a tendency to do so eccentrically. However, that is a choice, and my own default can mimick the austerity of high society, mayhaps owing to my innate sense of superiority.

Yet I have never forgotten that I come from humble roots, befiting a man who loves his potatoes, that angelick spud, and whose worth is not in the inherited advantages that is so prominent in my peers, but in my own ability to generate wealth, fame, and power.

In some sense, I think that the comforts of being middle class have definitely dulled the edge of my more privileged friends.

Even I have almost been lulled by the ambrosia of middle-class… almost, but not quite!
